Barriers
There are a variety of barriers still in place to the use of Assistive Technology and accommodations in the classroom. Some relate to ongoing stigma, changing standards, cost, and many more. How these challenges and barriers are addressed change depending on a where an individual is. For example, an individual not in a Higher Education environment may have to purchase special devices to gain equitable access such as screen readers, wheelchairs, or other devices, while others enrolled in Higher Education or a K-12 environment may have these items be available already for their use.
